Young bollywood actor Imran Khan says he had an endless crush on Juhi Chawla and that he would love to work in a film like “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak”, which was his uncle Aamir Khan’s debut vehicle.
“While growing I had a huge crush on Juhi Chawla. I loved her in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’. I actually proposed to her as a child,” Imran told reporters at the Landmark book store at Infinity Mall. He was here to unveil a special two-book collection of Mills & Boon series based on his forthcoming movie “I Hate Luv Storys”.
“I would love to act in a film made similar to ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’,” he added.
The actor, who plays a non-romantic guy in “I Hate Luv Storys”, insists he’s very old fashioned and traditional when it comes to love in real life.
“I am a very old fashioned and traditional guy when it comes to love.
The proof of this is I have been with the same girl for the last eight years,” said Imran, who is engaged to Avantika Malik.
Asked what qualities he looks for in a girl, he said, “Apart from physical attractiveness, I like if the girl is funny and cracks jokes, however, at the same time someone with whom I can also have an intellectual conversation. A lot of girls say they like funny guys. This is true for guys also as they like girls with good sense of humour.”

Ranbir’s co-star Sarah Thompson moving to Bollywood
After Barbara Mori in “Kites” another foreign beauty is all set to try her luck in Bollywood. Sarah Thompson who plays Ranbir Kapoor’s American girlfriend in “Raajneeti” is brushing up her Hindi skills ahead of moving to Mumbai.
“When I started working on ‘Raajneeti’ I knew no Hindi. That was okay. I had to play a girl who doesn’t know any Hindi and all I had to do was mutter a smattering of bad Hindi.”
But now Sarah has got herself a Hindi teacher. “I want to make a career in Bollywood. For that I need to know the language. So I got myself a teacher. Ab mujhe Hindi bolne aati hai.”
She gushes, “I love India and love Indian films. Mumbai reminds me of New York. The same energy and bustle and now I want to be part of it.”
This is Sarah’s third visit to India. “I came the first time to India to shoot in Bhopal for ‘Raajneeti’ and then I came to dub for the film. Now I’m back for the release, and I’m nervous and anxious, yeah! I want to do more Bollywood films, and yes I am shifting to Mumbai.”
This time Sarah has come laden with a wish-list of Bollywood directors she wants to work with. “I want to meet Vishal Bhardwaj and Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra. In fact I am meeting Rakeysh Mehra shortly. I saw ‘Rang De Basanti’ and I said to myself, ‘Why couldn’t I have played the British girl in the film?’ I’ve seen Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kaminey’ twice. He’s another Bollywood director I really want to work with.”
Sarah admits she had not heard of Prakash Jha when he offered her the role in “Raajneeti”.
“But when I met him and he narrated the role of Ranbir Kapoor’s American girlfriend to me I knew I had to do it. He gave me his ‘Gangaajal’ and ‘Apaharan’ to watch. And that’s how I was introduced to a totally new facet of Bollywood,” she said.
“Before watching Prakashji’s films I thought Bollywood meant singing and dancing. Here was a gritty realistic cinema that I certainly wanted to be part of,” she added.
The starry-eyed but grounded young actress says she has links with India.
“My parents have visited India many times, not just short touristic sightseeing visits but lengthy exploratory trips. Our home is filled with an aura and souvenirs from India. Me and my two sisters grew up hearing fascinating stories about India,” she said.
Sarah says she has her parents blessings in making a career in Bollywood.
“If I do manage to make a career here my parents would be the happiest. Yes I do miss them when I am in India. Hopefully when I shift they’d come and visit me in Mumbai. I love Mumbai, just roaming around places like Colaba Causeway I feel so much at home,” Sarah said.
As part of her background research for “Raajneeti” Sarah read up as much as she could on the internet on Indian politics. She was also made to watch “Saawariya” by Prakash Jha to understand her co-star’s acting style.
And Sarah was hooked!
“Before working with Ranbir I had seen only Saawariya and thought he was outstanding. Then when we reached Bhopal, Katrina and Prakashji took me to watch ‘Wake Up, Sid’. And I was like… oh my God!”
“When I met Ranbir the first thing I blurted was how much I liked him in ‘Wake Up, Sid’. Then I watched all his films. That’s how good I found him.”
The American girl in Bollywood just can’t stop raving about Ranbir. “Ranbir really took care of me. He made me feel so comfortable. Not for a minute did I feel like an outsider. Ishqiya’ to be screened at Munich film fest

Ishqiya Critically acclaimed film “Ishqiya” is set to be screened at the Munich International Film Festival to be held June 25-July 3.
“We are happy that our efforts as a film production house are recognised worldwide. In fact, ‘Ishqiya’ is a cult film whose success story will surely leave its deep impressions on the audience’s mind,” Hiren Gada, director of Shemaroo Entertainment, said in a press statement.
The film released in January 2010 and has been co-produced by Shemaroo Entertainment and Vishal Bhardwaj.
It is the directorial debut of Abhishek Chaubey and features Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi.

Raavan Set for London Premiere

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s much-awaited film “Raavan” will have its world premiere June 16 in London.
Abhishek, who plays Beera in the film, posted this on his microblogging site Twitter.
Directed by Mani Ratnam and co-produced by Reliance BIG Pictures, the film also stars Tamil superstar Vikram, Govinda and Ravi Kishan. It is set for a June 18 release.
In the film, Abhishek kidnaps Aishwarya who is married to Vikram. As the story progresses, Aishwarya’s character apparently develops a soft corner for her abductor.

Mani Ratnam to Get 2010 Filmmaker Award at Venice
WASHINGTON - Hailing Mani Ratnam as “one of the great innovators in contemporary Indian cinema”, the Venice International Film Festival will honour the director of “Raavan” with the 2010 Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award.
In recent years, the award given in partnership with Swiss watch manufacturer Jaeger-LeCoultre has honoured other major world filmmakers like Takeshi Kitano, Abbas Kiarostami, Agnes Varda, and Sylvester Stallone.
“Mani Ratnam used to make movies only in his native tongue, Tamil, but has been one of a handful of filmmakers to successfully handle the transition to the All-India market,” says the Venice Film Festival Director Marco Mueller explaining the choice in a news release.
“One of the great innovators in contemporary Indian cinema, he helped introduce the auteur concept to
contemporary Bollywood. His movies display precision and poise, and have always been removed from the bombast and bluster of mass-produced regional cinema.
“The lavish musical numbers in his films, some of the best-tailored in Mumbai and Madras in recent years, have influenced the style of many others as well as the design of commercials and music videos.
“Ratnam’s most celebrated films have become part of the cinematic imagination of the sub-continent,” Mueller noted.
As in previous editions, the director will also be presented with a Reverso Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, a one-of-a-kind model with a commemorative engraving.
On the occasion of the award ceremony, the Mostra communication agency will present the festival premiere of Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming film “Ravaan”, attended by the director and by the Indian movie super stars Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Vikram, and Academy award winner music director A.R. Rahman.
“Ravaan will enchant audiences with its stirring drama and entrancing musical sequences, said Mueller. “We are proud to be hosting the festival premiere of this wonderful film, which will be presented at the 2010 Mostra in both the Hindi and the Tamil version.”
Enlivened by the music composed by Rahmanm, Ravaan fuses drama, action, love story, and musical. The film tells the adventurous story of a bandit leader who kidnaps the wife of the policeman who killed his sister, taking her through a journey during which once again the everlasting, epic battle between good and bad takes place.
Produced in association with Reliance Big Pictures and distributed internationally by Reliance Big Pictures and IM Global, “Ravaan” opens in theatres worldwide June 18.

Barbara Mori Mexican Actress in Bollywood Movie Kites
The controversy around the kissing scene between Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori during Kites movie shoot has barely subsided, when the next controversy has cropped up. Apparently Papa Roshan, who was none to happy over the Hrithik Roshan – Barbara Mori kiss scene, is even more discomfited over the highly steamy Hrithik – Barbara Mori scenes in Kites.
Apart from that, Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori are said to get on very well off-screen as well, which has panicked Papa Roshan even more. He is said to have flown down Hrithik’s wife and kids to Las Vegas, where Kites is being shot, to stem any budding relationship between Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori.
Kites which was scheduled to be complete in September 2008, got delayed due to sandstorms in New Mexico where Kites was being shot. Kites will now be completed by mid-October, 2008. Kites stars Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori, and Kangana Ranaut in pivotal roles.
Rakesh Roshan has directed most of the movies he has produced. His bumper hits like Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Krissh 1 and 2, have starred son Hrithik Roshan. This is the second time Rakesh Roshan has handed over he directorial reins to another. The last time he
did so, was the 2008 release Krazzy 4, which tanked at the box office and landed him into a legal tangle.

Vidya Balan wins the ‘Smita Patil Memorial’ Award
Priyadarshini Academy chairman Nanik Rupani said,
“Vidya Balan is an excellent actress. She is modern yet contemporary and has done decent and powerful roles. Her performance in ‘Paa’ was outstanding. Our jury has chosen her for the Smita Patil Award for her outstanding contribution to the film industry,”.
Priyadarshini Academy is an NGO which is engaged in socio-cultural and educational activities and has been holding the biennial award function since its inception in 1984.
In 2008, Preity Zinta was felicitated with the award. Other celebrities like Yash Chopra, Karisma Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit and
Kareena Kapoor have also been bestowed with this award.
The ceremony will be held on Sep 19 in Oberoi Hotel, Mumbai.
